"Do I need a provisional licence to start my lessons?"
Before you can start your learning journey you must have applied for, and received, your provisional licence. You can find out more information about this process here.
"How many lessons will I need?"
The DVSA published guidelines state that on average a learner driver requires 45 hours of professional tuition, alongside 22 hours of private practice.
"Do I need to pass my theory test before I start my lessons?"
Provided you have applied for, and received, your provisional licence, you don't need to have passed your theory test before you begin your practical lessons.
"Who can sit next to me on private practise?"
Anyone who is over 21 and has held a full licence for over 3 years can supervise a learner driver. It's worth familiarising yourself with the government guidelines, you can find out about them here.
"Can learner drivers go on the motorway?"
The rules on this are quite specific. Learner drivers are permitted on the motorway provided they're supervised by a fully qualified driving instructor in a dual controlled car. This means you wouldn't be allowed on a motorway during private practise.
"How often should I have a driving lesson?"
Continuity is key when it comes to learning to drive. We highly recommend a minimum of 1 lesson per week in order to maintain a steady progression.
"How will I track my progress?"
Each week we'll discuss your goals and aspirations for your lesson, before you begin driving. These will be reviewed at the end of each lesson. The reflections we make will feed into your goals for your following lesson. Your instructor will keep a record of these so you'll always know where you are. You can also use the resources in our learner area to track your own progress.
